Lea Salonga Becomes UN Ambassador of Goodwill. News had it that Philippines very own Kim in Miss Saigon, Ms. Lea Salonga became the United Nations Ambassador of Goodwill. Salonga received the prestigious title and role after like 30 years of great career in the showbiz industry.

Meet Lea Salonga, acclaimed singer-actress, Inquirer columnist and now United Nations goodwill ambassador.

Lea Salonga was appointed as United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization last Friday. It was held during the celebration of World Food Day. The said ocassion was also attended by Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon, Italian actor Raoul Bova and Canadian singer Celine Dion.

Lea Salonga performed John Lennon’s “Imagine”.

I sang ‘Imagine,’ after Josette Sheeran, executive director of the World Food Program, spoke about having a dream of succeeding in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. It was an appropriate pairing, one that I hadn’t anticipated.

The appointment took place at FAO headquarters in Rome.
